Brent's Story
Hello everyone and welcome to Team Able! My name is Brent Ulrici, and I work with Team Able as our Human Potential Ambassador. This means I help find what our members and volunteers are interested in and capable of, and help find the best ways to provide support to all of you.

A bit about me: I have lived with Generalized Anxiety Disorder since as long as I can remember. This disorder simply means do to childhood trauma, my fight or flight reflex is triggered by seemingly mundane things. Growing up, my parents did the best they could to treat the physical symptoms that come along with the disorder, but unfortunately mental health was not discussed as much as it is now, so I struggled with everything from school to leaving the house. Once I was an adult, I got the diagnosis of GAD, but I had already started self-medicating with alcohol. I developed substance abuse disorder from drinking to manage my anxiety, which eventually lead me to hospitalization and going through a recovery program in 2016. I ended up loving recovery so much I managed a Sober Living Environment for over a year after getting sober and met all kinds of people from all walks of life.

I began working in education as a special education paraprofessional (teacher’s aid) and loved it so much I decided to go back to school to get my BA in Early Childhood Development and my Multi-Subject teaching credential. Having so much anxiety related to school has made me want to work with students who require a little more compassion, empathy, and sensitivity so that no one will have to feel as scared and alone as I did.

I love working with others, providing an empathetic ear, and hearing new perspectives. Outside of Team Able, I love horror, video games, and all my sweet animals. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with anyone who wants to grow with our community!
